Christopher, Your comments peeked my interest because I have observed that
my APU2 runs warm to the touch. So I decided to run an experiment...
I observed the system temperature (as reported on the status page) for a
few days. Then I shutdown my Ubuntu VM and ran without QEMU running for a
few days observing the temperature. Result is that I could not observe any
meaningful temperature change (all less than one degree celsius).
There was a significant increase in temperature towards the end of the
non-QEMU period (+6 degrees) but that is probably because the ambient
temperature in the room increased... first part of the period we were out
for vacation and house heating was off... it fired back up day we got home
and that is when APU2 box internal temperature increased and has been
stable at the new higher temperature since then.
Now my Ubuntu VM was fairly idle most of the time, so that would also have
an impact... if you run a workload that uses a lot of CPU then certainly
the system temperature would increase, as it would whether the workload was
in a VM or not.
