Hi Graham
I run Alix boards with 256Mb RAM and I have to turn off as much as I can using
1.2.10. 512Mb should be fine though.
I recommend the APU for any new boxes.
Regards

Hmmmm - embarrassing....
I'm pretty sure that this wasn't on http://www.astlinux-project.org/ when I
looked this morning....
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
AstLinux 1.2.10 was the last supported version for "net5501" and "alix" board
types. A custom build can still be used to generate 'run' images for "net5501"
and "alix" board types.
Sorry about that !

Hello everybody,
excuse me reactivating this old thread but I wanted to turn the question around:
If "one" had a few Soekris NET5501-70 (note 5501) boxes in place and all in
pbx-only mode (with only ssh and iax ports open)...
What would be the highest Astlinux version that you would run on these?
And which version of Asterisk?
By the way - In North Africa not everything is, or has to be, up-to-date.
All suggestions gratefully received,
Thanks,
-Graham-

Thanks Michael
I might look into the NF9HG-2930. Case looks good too but might be hard to
source locally.

I use an APU for my smaller sites and the Jetway NF9HQL-525 for larger sites. I
would love to find a slimline case for it actually!

Michael,
I use this for larger sites now (Intel NICs), there is also a link to the Akasa
Cypher thin case, which I use (should also work for the NF9HQL):

The astlinux.org homepage has a list of supported hardware. Personally I use a
PC Engines APU (http://doc.astlinux.org/userdoc:board_pcengines_apu) and it is
working very well. It is about as low cost and low power as you can get.
Lonnie likes some of the Intel Atom boards and may have specific recommendation
too.

Hi All:
Just wanted to see what astlinux users are recommending for hardware at this
time. I am looking at replacing my old (ok, very old), Soekris Net4801. This
is for home use, really just 1 SIP line, and the lower the power needed, the
better. Thanks in advance for your time and effort.
Best Regards,
Paul
+1 for the PC Engines APU1, it is the cheapest of all recent boards (at least
here in Germany).
Michael
I will add that the PC Engines APU2 "apu2c2" http://pcengines.ch/apu2c2.htm
*should* be a good choice later this year after the BIOS is feature complete.
Same price as the APU1 but with Intel i211AT NIC's. We have not tested it yet.
Another good choice is the Jetway NF9HG-2930 mini-itx board
http://doc.astlinux.org/userdoc:board_jetway_nf9hg-2930
Currently that board seems hard to find, but I'm sure Jetway is making more.
Of course you would have to add a case, memory and SSD.
As David mentioned at http://doc.astlinux.org/userdoc:documentation -> "Generic
x86 Boards and Appliances" we have quite a few choices that we have tested.
Most all the modern boards will consume less than 10 W and be
supercomputer-like compared to your net4801. :-)
