Ok I have a site with 'No pppoe-status available'.
3999-IPCBuild-CM1 etc # /usr/sbin/pppoe-status
/usr/sbin/pppoe-status: Cannot read configuration file '/etc/ppp/pppoe.conf'

/tmp/etc/ppp is not there.

3999-IPCBuild-CM1 sbin # pppoe-restart
pppoe-stop: Cannot read configuration file '/etc/ppp/pppoe.conf'
pppoe-restart: PPPoE not enabled.

reboot appears to be the only thing that fixes it.

Any other things I should try?

Regards
Michael Knill

    Hi Michael,

I had the same issue years ago as well (in those scenarios). This might be
a timing issue in the PPPoE software (usr/sbin/pppoe-staus) after a
manual/scripted PPPoE restart or when the ISP forced a reconnect and the line
is not up again within a specific timeframe.
