Nedi, I don't know what PCengines did to optimize for LTE but it may have to do with RF screening for miniPCI cellular/4G modems. Astlinux does not support any of these modems. I looked at it a few years ago but found that supporting them would be non-trivial. They use antiquated serial port AT type protocols and very few can emulate an ethernet port. They are not cheap either. You are far better off using an external wireless gateway like the netgear LB1120 (or LB1121 with PoE), this is what I use for failover.
