Hi. I, Janelle Edwards, announce my candidacy for President of the Missouri Council of the Blind.
In 1996, I joined the Kansas affiliate of the American Council of the Blind (ACB) and worked in many capacities. Since joining MCB in 2006, I serve and have served as an officer, committee member and chair, for MCB, its affiliates, and community organizations. Presently, I am Recording Secretary, Bylaws/Resolutions Chair, on the Policy Committee for MCB, and the Constitution and Bylaws committee for ACB. If I am your President, I will: WORK I will continue the battle to protect the rights Missourians fought long and hard for in gaining independence. I will work with other organizations to improve state programs, increase employment opportunities through training, better education of blind children, a strong Business Enterprise Program, and continue our positive relationship with RSB. The goals and traditions of MCB are a priority. Our committees play an important role, and I will work with them and find more sources of income while continuing the work of the thrift store committee ensuring its profitability, explore ways to improve transit options between our cities and outlying areas, seek more members, and continue to inform lawmakers of our needs. COMMUNICATION I am passionate in my goal that MCB members must have access to information! Using MCB and state resources, it is my goal that any blind Missourian who so desire will be able to obtain an accessible computer and the training necessary to gain independence. I will make convention sessions and board meetings available online and by phone, and establish a monthly newsletter to be sent to Members At Large and affiliates for reading at meetings. LEADERSHIP Challenges abound. Member involvement is essential. I will provide leadership and encouragement and work with individuals, committees, and affiliates as we strive for the betterment of MCB and all blind people. I welcome your ideas and suggestions.
