Subject: [acb-l] Attention Verizon Fios Customers

Hello everyone,

I am reaching out to all customers of Verizon Cable TV. Please describe for me
your experiences, either good or bad in trying to receive programming with
audio description using Verizon cable. I am a Verizon customer myself and have
been for a bit over a year. While my wife and I like the Verizon service very
much, we have had zero success receiving audio described programming of any
kind on the system. The few verizon customers I know of have had similar
negative experiences. I spoke with Eric Bridges today and he too knows of no
one who has successfully received audio described TV programming on the verizon
cable system.

Since the new rules pursuant to the communication and video accessibility Act,
(CVAA,) went into effect on July 1 of this year, the amount of audio described
TV programming has increased substantially. Many of my friends who are Comcast
customers are already enjoying this programming. Now that the CVAA is law and
the regulations are taking effect, it is up to us to continue to advocate now
more than ever before to see that broadcasters and cable and satellite
providers are complying with the law. So far, the FCC has received very few
complaints regarding audio description. This means that either broadcasters and
cable and satellite providers are complying with the new rules or that
customers who are not receiving programming with descriptions are not
advocating for compliance and complaining when appropriate.

While I am particularly interested in hearing from verizon customers, I will be
happy to hear from other customers of cable and satellite providers. I am
working closely with Eric Bridges to facilitate advocacy for compliance with
CVAA rules and the filing of complaints when customers have been unable to work
with providers to receive programming with audio description.

Please send email to [email protected] and include your name, email address,
phone number and a brief description of your experiences with audio described
television programming. The more we band together to advocate for compliance
with the new rules the better will be the results for all of us.

Thanks in advance for your help here.

Bob Hachey
