Subject: [blind-philly-comp] TeleTender/Access the Internet from your Phone/No computer Required

Teletender is a completely free service which allows any caller to
access Web pages and email via their touch-tone phone. No computer is
required. In the past week, they have added more access numbers,
including two numbers with local area codes.
(215) 501-7751
(610) 628-9162
I’ve been using this service quite a lot and it offers a great deal,
considering that it’s free. However, it’s far from perfect and can be a
bit glitchy at times. People with computers or smartphones will probably
see very little point in getting very involved with this, but people who
don’t own a computer or smartphone but who want to access the Internet
may find this service attractive. It is likely that you won’t be able to
set up an email account via this service, but it can be used to access
email from accounts such as Verizon, AOL, Gmail, Outlook.com and others.
You can search the Web by speaking your search phrase; sometimes it
works amazingly well, other times it has a hard time recognizing your
words. You can visit any Web site you want to go to, either by using the
numeric keypad on your phone using a rather non-standard method of
entering letters or you can use your voice to spell the name of the Web
page one letter at a time, if you use the phonetic alphabet. As an
example, to go to the Web site asb.org you would need to say “alpha,
sierra, bravo, dot org.” You can even move by specific elements as you
can with a screen reader, such as moving by headings, links, buttons,
etc. The Web site for more info is
www.teletender.org
due to the complex nature of this service and my time constraints, I am
not able to provide any phone support on this system to non-ASB
employees during work hours.
