and in any case, inserting text into the element content is risky, as it's
no different from any other extension inserting text there. At the least,
consider doing this:

    <category ...>
        <pkeane:text>blah blah</pkeane:text>
    </category>

that way, the next developer coming along could do the following without
borking your original content:

    <category ...>
        <pkeane:text>blah blah</pkeane:text>
        <escheid:meta>bork bork bork</escheid:meta>
    </category>
