And when you have bales of web content that have to be displayed on a super-wide variety of display technologies, many of which have limited supported for changing and mixing base URIs (like HTML), relative references are fragile. This is the kind of situation you run into with syndication formats, and it should go in the implementation guide. Robert Sayre
