I dunno if it’d be such a great idea anyway – it just so happens
that it would work for the threading extension, but I’m not sure
it would be very universally useful. But yeah, it *would* work
for this case…

Yes it does work in the comments draft ;-) If you haven't done so
already, take a look at the version I submitted as an I-D [1]. It uses
@idref for the ID reference.
