FWIW, I haven't used the ATRPMs fuse modules for quite some time now 
with no ill effects.  I use it only to access a local NTFS partition and 
it works fine.  As you note, you may want the kmdls for more 
sophisticated usage or to fix a specific problem but if you haven't seen 
a problem, it's likely you would be fine with the Fedora-supplied driver.

I also exclude them in atrpms.repo for simplicity...
