There are two mobile versions.  I think that one (mid) is the smaller of 
the two.  I tried the other one.  You can download both rc versions from 
here:

http://releases.ubuntu.com/releases/8.10/

My atv is in my car, so I want something that boots quickly, works well 
with 7" screens and can be powered off without shutting down.  So far 
live xbmc is the closest to my needs.
