An update: - I installed appletv software version 2.4 (former version was 1.0) still I can't boot from the ide compact flash.
- I recreated a new bootable compactflash, using an old Transcend 1gb 80x card, but still no joy. Just to check my sanity, I then put the transcend card+ CF<->IDE adapter in an external 2.5 pata to USB enclosure, and, guess what, that worked... So there seems to be something slightly different going on when booting internally. I remember from some time ago, when installing the opensource firmware Rockbox on an iRiver device, that some CF cards would work and others would not (cf http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/CFModGuide#Compatibility_Chart ). I doubt the problem is the CF <-> IDE adapter, it's just some physical connection, since the CF implements the IDE protocol... so I might try other CF brands. Scott, any chance you could tell me the model of CF card you used ? Thanks for your help, best regards, Laurent On Fri, Oct 23, 2009 at 2:01 AM, Scott D.
