Hi Scott, Thanks! That was it. By default, XBMC 9.11 is set to "auto" for the renderer. I guess that in this release, with AppleTV, auto for h.264 will try and use VDPAU whether or not it is available. Other content plays fine under auto, so I'm guessing it is an H.264 specific thing. Forcing it to ARB fixed it.
