Yes, they are. But with them I don't have to remember which variables
to set for my setup. So I just have to call the four targets in order
and the release will mostly be done. At least for me this speeds up
the process significantly.

That should be ${DIST_PREFIX}ftp.

Perhaps with a confirmation request or warning before the upload is
actually carried out. That would reduce the risk of somebody
accidently uploading stuff.

Ahem. I just forgot that they are there.
What I think is a bit dangerous are the rm -rf calls for deleting
these directories. A better alternative would be to abort if the
directories exist and are not empty.
