Yep, your best bet is to look at Ubuntu's and Orca's documentation. Those two things will help you build a foundation of what to expect out of the GUI aspects of Linux. I was in a similar position myself about a month ago when I decided to give Vinux a try, and while I've since spoken to a couple of people who consider Vinux to be a cop-out, and encouraged me to dive right into something like Arch, I feel that it doesn't really matter where you start out as long as you get what you need to get out of your OS.
