I'll move this to new releases sinse I don't think w'eve heard too much about this game.
Ecco location has been used previously, eg, the first person game Swamp has sonars, though how successful it's been has varried a little, usually it's more one tool in an a hole range of things, both in real life and the way it's been used in games, rather than the be all and end all.
Oddly enough in Blindscape, which is I assume what you mean about the man with gouged out eyes sinse it was about someone in a distopean society who had been punished by having his eyes burned out, the problem to me wasn't the setting so much as the execution, having to swipe a finger round the hole screen to constantly feel for objects like door knobs.
Both rather annoying gameplay wise and also not a good representation of location by touch.
