If you can't map the ports manually, or use UPnP, then the only hope you have is some sort of NAT traversal solution, which is almost guaranteed to work. This could be Hamachi, but I am working on setting up a Tinc server to support any number of gamers because it seems pretty clear that it's going to be needed sooner or later anyway. It would then only require one person, with one public IP address, to fire up a working peer-to-peer mesh network, and it would work behind any NATs.
