The weird characters in English

So, this is one of the topics on my mind lately. What is the point of a semicolon? I mean, what is the difference between me typing the following sentences.
Hi, my name is Amerikranian; I like to do stuff.
Hi, my name is Amerikranian, I like to do stuff.
"Very creative," I hear you mutter. It is! It is the most creative thing you ever witnessed! Anyways, what's the point. Have your screen reader be set to only read some symbols and make it read the sentences. What do you get? Exactly the same intonations for both of them. If you were presented with the two sentences without you being able to look at the spelling, you wouldn't be able to tell the type of punctuation I used. On the other hand, if we had this set of statements, you'd be able to tell me their punctuation.
How's it going?
This is a test!
I'm so bored...
This is test number four, I'm sure.
Without looking at the sentences, you can tell me the symbol that was put at the end of each one. So, what is the point of the semicolon? Why does it exist? Where would it be used?
