An idiot has it right, it's a combination of fear and laziness. Despite what people may tell you, learning how to do basic audio editing is not difficult and you don't need anyone to do it for you unless your planning on making a premium (probably paid) title.
That list in the dev room was made for a reason, and expecting some originality when we don't have the luxury of relying on visuals to make games feel different seems reasonable to me.
You spend a month or more coding a game, but you can't spend a few days finding sounds for it? I don't buy it. Finish the job before release if you want your game to be remembered.
After all if you made the choice to create the type of game that should have decent sounds, it's called an audio game for a reason, then don't complain when people are disappointed by an unfinished project unless they're being total jerks about it.
