Re: is there a good and accessible replacement for file explorer?
@TheTrueSwampGamer, I will attempt to address your post directly, so as to help you understand the situation. Xplorer2 is a 3rd-party file manager for Windows. It boasts many advanced features while having a clean and user-friendly interface. It has several different payment paths to choose from and an addition free lite version, Total Commander generally is the same type of thing. The reason the registry is involved is to replace Explorer entirely with one of these options. Without, you can use each program fine, but you'll have to launch them directly, windows+e will still open File Explorer, and events set to open in a file manager will still open in File Explorer. With that being said, if you are okay with the above, there is no need for registry modification. However, it is still only used so that Xplorer2 and TCMD can launch automatically as if it was your main file manager. Xplorer2 also has an official option in the setup to achieve the same thing for people who don't want to mess with the registry, though you are of course welcome to create a backup beforehand.
I hope this answers your questions.
