Turkey is a nation state which name is based on ethnicity, it is not a name like America enspired by a person or any existing animal.
when we come to the bird, the bird one, it was being imported to eurap from Ottoman empire, that's when the name Turkey appeared. Though as a sidenote, the original turky's living habitat is in america if i remember it right, those 2 birds are similor, the one that i talked about and the original turky, they were similor bids, so they both called them turkey.
it should be taken as a racist word or anything because we call Turkey as hindy, the indian, because Turks encoured the Hindies, turkies in india first.
now for the countries name, Turkey
its true meaning is the land of the Turks.
the word, türk, originates from the word türkük, meaning powerfull in ainchent turkish
the first definition of turks identifying themselves as türks, has been recorded in 8th century in Old Turkic Inscriptions of Gokturk Khaganate.
considering the dates of the definition of turks, the people, has been recorded before the discovery of turkey, its not whise to say the countries name has been enspired by the animal.
