Well, guyz, may-be some of ya really have to chase the latest tech at any possibility and also have enough free resources for just that, but for the rest of us it's actually not that uncommon to have computers ten years old or even more than that.
And yes, psu's can and do blow up, not always with a bang, sometimes just with a slight buzz and a funky smell, but they do die. I myself have been quite lucky not to have a bang, but a couple of those things have went out on me. Fortunately nothing else had got damaged during those times, but as a note of caution: whenever things start to go weird and act strange, do not ever try to force them to turn on as it may lead to more serious stuff happening rather than just a dead power source.
As always, I have no intent to offend anybody whenever being a little harsh, just to remind that as the world is wide, so are the financial and other conditions people may come from.
