Also, if you want to have an audible alert when the login screen is coming up there's two things you can do:
1. Set whatever screen reader you're using to run at the log on screen. For NVDA this is in the General settings page accessible with Control Insert G. The particular setting you want is called "Use NVDA during sign-in (requires administrator privileges)".
2. Enable the Windows startup sound:
Go to run with windows and r.
Type
control /name microsoft.sound
and press enter.
Go over to the Sounds tab.
Press tab until you get to the "Play Windows Start-up sound" checkbox, and ensure it is checked.
Now next time you restart, you should have a sound play just before the login screen is shown.
