While those sorts of fixes would be cool, I always personally saw orbit harvesting as essentially just an adjunct to space travel while your doing something else, like doing the starship flight quest, especially when you get the auto harvesting upgrade.
For me, the activities which always disappointed in the 30-60 range were the boating activities as well as fishing, since these promise really interesting exploration, there are even water monsters mentioned in a help file, and then they are all just variants of move to coords and type something, though I will say since boats have no movement time, you can do them pretty dam quickly.
Actually, it's always a little odd that there are so many activities introduced in short order between levels 0 and 120, and then new activities tail off, while some of the older ones continue, indeed it's sort of amazing that volcano harvesting has no rank cap, but something like mechanical mining does, though at least they extended the rank cap on asteroid processing which I think is my favourite activity along with pollution reparation.
