This should give you an idea of what to do. However, I would like to suggest a few things.
1. A handbag out of a towel isn't really a good idea because towels are highly absorbant of water and therefore become wet extremely easily. When you see a real bag you find that the material is not absorbant of water. With a towel, the inside of it can become wet very easily. Now imagine this thing is a bag. Water will seep in because of the material and wet everything inside. So say on a normal day a family member has to take some important papers to work. In a normal bag nothing would happen. However as this family member is walking to work, there is a huge downpour of rain from the sky. Now the problem here would here be that the towel absorbs the water, because remember, a towel needs to absorb water to dry your body and thus takes needs to take all the moisture away. This could mean that important work documents are destroyed. Also, people might not be willing to buy these bags because they might not see value in them. One of the important things in business is that if you don't know how to advertise the quality of something, people are not going to buy it even if it is something good. A towel isn't really that attractive. The reason why it's done in some parts of the world is because people are too poor sometimes to afford anything else. There is also the fact that you plan to sell these things whereas you don't have firm experience in sewing. So try to start small, maybe involve some family members, and then work gradually up until you get to the point where you can begin selling things.
To conclude, try to find some other fabric. Also, you'll need a sited instructor as evidenced by the link I posted above.
