If you leave the area the box resets.
Perhaps the guide is off slightly with respect to the count.
You just have to line the box up and push it on to the teleporter. It's quite doable simply by ear.
You can always trace where a box will end up if you push it in a given direction. For example, if you want to check if a box will get stuck if you push it left, get on the left-hand side of it (so moving right causes you to bump it), then run left and see what you hit. In other words, pretend you're the box and use your body as a crash test dummy. Those puzzles are quit approachable once you get the hang of them.
