Thanks for your suggestion. On my slimserver settings / file types, I am only able to select & deselect individual file types, not specific conversions as you have described. Anyway, I think I am right in my understanding that clicking on these file types just makes changes to the convert.conf file. If that is the case, then I have re-tested the problem by deleting my convert.conf file and making a very simply one with just the followeing two entries: mov mp3 * * [faad] -w -f 2 $FILE$ | [lame] --resample 44100 --silent -q $QUALITY$ -b $BITRATE$ -r - - mov aif * * [faad] -w -f 2 $FILE$ In fact, with just the second entry I can still play music without rate limiting, and the problem is still there. This morning I quickly wiped and re-installed my Fedora Linux server, including Slimserver, in case there was some kind of corruption. However my noise problem is still there. I'm interested in trying a different AAC decoder though in case there is some kind of interaction. Are there any you recommend? One other thing I plan to try later on is to downgrade to Slimserver 6.1, as I am starting to wonder if this problem may have appeared in 6.2. The only reason I am thinking this is that I ran 6.1 for a while after buying my Squeezebox and can't recall ever hearing this problem. Anyway, I'll add that to the action plan. Meanwhile, I would still be interested if anyone else is experiencing the same problem. Am I the only one? :-( Alternatively is anyone streaming AACs from a Linux server using Slimserver 6.2 without any quality issues? If so, what set-up are you using?
