If your old CD player sounds good with the Nuforces, the SB2 certainly should. I presume you are using the analog outs with the native DAC. Adjust the Preamp Volume Control to match output gain to your amps, such that you are listening at 35-40 volume level on the SB. Also, make sure Bitrate Limiting is set to NO limit, and try disabling Volume Adjustment/ReplayGain, as some audiophiles think the current version is adding distortion at lower listening volumes.
I feed my SB2 directly to a Sunfire amp, driving ML Aerius speakers.
