It might be worth adding that you should turn the amps down to minimum
before starting the test tone, then slowly turn one up.  If you start
to hear distortion you've gone too far...

Sine waves can be dangerous for speakers, especially high frequency
ones, as (cheaper speakers especially) are not typically very tolerant
to the constant current that a sine wave produces.  I'm guessing the sb
test tone is 1kHz though, which shouldn't be too bad as it'll go through
the woofer in most speakers.
