FLAC is a losless compression method. The file is -uncompressed- before playing. Thus it is restored to its (bit exact) original format.
If you want, you can have the Slimserver convert the FLAC files to WAV on the server side before the file is streamed to the SB3 and played. The default method is to have the FLAC file decoded by the SB3 device. That method reduces the required network bandwidth becuase FLAC file are smaller and thus is takes less bandwidth to get the file across the network. But, if you want you can have the FLAC file converted to WAV before it is streamed, and thus you can listen to streamed WAV files if you wish. Incidentally, no one has yet been able to confirm in a blind test the difference between streaming FLAC or unpacking and streaming WAV, but if it makes you feel better you are welcome to do it. Just go to the File Types page in server settings and uncheck the box next to the following: FLAC FLAC (built-in) and leave the following box checked: FLAC WAV flac Then you will be streaming WAV files. -Dan -- dwc ------------------------------------------------------------------------ dwc's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1892 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19075 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
