Have owned a SB3 for only 3 days, but I'm impressed! I put myself slap bang centre in the neurotic audiphool camp, primarily listen to vinyl, (through tube amplification, of course ;-), don't have a lot of time for the digital medium - it is a necessary evil with the lack of new vinyl software and for music on the move. My digital collection is 90% flac (ripped with cdparanoia or EAC secure), 10% ALAC ripped with iTunes. I use Linux given the choice and have experimented with DIY USB->SPDIF solutions and high-end soundcards to replace my CD transport. I bought the SB3 as a toy to play with. Didn't expect a lot from it, (based on my computer/digital experiences so far), but I'm impressed. I'm damned if I can tell the difference between flac streamed via the SB3 into my Sonic Frontiers Processor 3 DAC, and the original CD played into the same DAC from the partnering SF Transport 3. (Especially impressed as ISTR that with the I2SE connection from transport to DAC (transport slave to DAC clock) jitter < 10ps.) I bought the SB3 for front-room background music, but having used it in my dedicated listening system, it's staying and I will be ripping the rest of my remaining CD collection to flac. Will have to buy another for the front-room.
