Correct, the reason is actually that the ethernet link is asynchronous
to the DAC clock.

Correct, the jitter here should be very low, and dependant only on the
quality of the clock, the power, and the circuit layout.

Yep, to eliminate jitter caused by interfacing an external DAC to an
sb, take the clock out of the sb, stick it in the DAC, and drive the
clock back from the DAC to the sb.  This is actually quite a simple mod
on the sb side, but not necessarily so simple on the dac side.
