I do think SACD has it over 16/44.1, mostly I like it for the surround capabilities, but also it has an immediacy and clarity that I have not heard captured on CD.
I don't have a super-expensive audio system, just NAD-based mid-fi, but SACD captured my ear the first time I heard it - a James Taylor disc played through a cheap Sony demo system with tiny speakers. It was clear I wouldn't need a $50k system to enjoy the benefits of SACD. To me, it's like the best LP playback, coupled with a totally silent background and quick, deep bass. IMO, a step closer to reality. But my personal reality is, since getting married, I no longer have a great listening room, rarely have the opportunity to listen critically, and do most of my listening while reading in bed. That said, I have decided to upgrade the bedroom system with a new Squeezebox 3. I've previously been using an original Slimp3, which of course means transcoding to mp3 for playback, and a more primitive DAC. It's time I got to enjoy the full benefit of the FLAC files which comprise most of my collection. My other SB1 sounds great, but is part of the home theater system and doesn't get used as much as the bedroom player. -- Pale Blue Ego ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Pale Blue Ego's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=110 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=20300 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
