One of the reasons I invested in SB, and computer audio in general, was
to digitize a lot of my vinyl. Out of about 1200 lps, I want to "save"
200-300 for later burning or of course for use with the Squeeze. This
project is certainly time-consuming, but it's allowed me to re-listen
to a lot of stuff I've neglected and, as commented above, can provide
superior fidelity. I love the irony of playing vinyl tunes through a
Squeezebox, and amplifying with Russian vacuum tubes!

The product I use is the Xitel In-Port. It is an ADC (I think) that
connects via USB. This supposedly avoids a lot of the computer noise
issues you have with soundcards. I've found the results to be quite
good. Software comes with the In-Port that allows you to set levels,
etc. while recording, and a second program that lets you edit into
seperate wav files. It has an option to plug-in an encoder, although
I've not used this feature. They also give you some decent-quality
RCA-ended interconnect, and the USB cord, for hooking everything up.

The vinyl-savior product is a high-end record cleaner. I use the
VPI-17, which absolutely works wonders! Pricey, but worth every penny
to me.
