Great speakers, by the way -- not too many of those around. Easily one of the most intelligent designs out there, and then some.
Anyway, you hit the nail right on the head. Setting proper EQ, getting your room right, and having terrific speakers are paramount. These sources are all so good, really, that the differences are often negligible or simply subjective. Somebody mentioned the possibility of Slim Devices coming out with a quality receiver at some point -- basically, the Squeezebox bundled with a quality digital or switching amp and simple but effective line stage. Wouldn't that be great? At the price point they would set it it, I'm sure, it would be a giant killer. Between Tripath, ICEpower, and others, I'm sure they could land the right component...
