Like I said, it's all about getting above a certain threshold. Maybe it's just like with computer programming in that you keep improving components one at a time until you remove most of the bottlenecks, which in this case, represent signal degradation. Perhaps, now that my amp is up to snuff, I would be able to hear more of a difference due to the source, but I'd probably go out and buy or DIY even better speakers before I get a new DAC. That said, I'm still not using the balanced interconnects on my amp, so there is room for change, but my DAC only has unbalanced outs. That upgrade will have to wait for another day, and for me to get a higher paying job.
