ezkc,

I follow you completely, and certainly to most normal human beings,
audiophiles are generally perceived as being extremists when it comes
to what they do to achieve better sound (whether it be spending more
money on gear, totally forgoing room aesthetics for better room
treatments, using green magic marker around the edges of a collection
of 2000+ CDs, etc). And yes, my wife will occassionally walk into my
listening room and say "hey, that sounds better than yesterday!", and
I'll say "its my new $1000 isolation platform on the preamp!", and
she'll say "$1000 for that piece of plywood? You *&^%^*!!!". ;-)

But I will say that over the course of my journey as an audiophile, the
way I listen to sound and music has changed quite a bit (maybe 10% ;-)).
It's still about enjoying the music and the performance, but it's also
now about appreciating tone and nuance in ways that I couldn't
appreciate listening to a lesser system. My ears are more sensitive
than they were 5 years ago, and now it hurts my ears to listen to my
car stereo whereas I used to enjoy blasting it and doing my own
personal "American Idol" as I drove down highways (and yes, I am using
the same car from 5 years ago). :-)

Anyways, I think we're all saying the same thing...that the value of
differences are very personal, and that most audiophiles are nuts...
:-)
