The only SlimServer version I've used is 6.2.2 (nightly build from 3/16), FW 35. If I have time later today, I'll do a listening test (not blind) with and without the WAV conversions checked. I'd be really surprised if the difference is as noticeable as the switch to converting FLAC on the server. Yes, )P(, it could be like the full volume versus fixed digital volume improvement that I noticed <g> but I'll take it either way. I've been following the objective vs. subjective audio wars for going on 20 years now. It seems to me that if careful measurements and blind listening tests could lead us to audio nirvana, they would have done so by now. My biggest disappointment in my original listening experience with Squeezebox was that, compared with my CD transport, the sound was less involving, more reproduced-sounding. To put it in woo-woo terms, it got in the way of the music. Now it sounds better to me, presumably due to a linear power supply and some changes to server settings; but also due to some pretty complex interactions between hardware, software, physics, acoustics and my ears and brain. Subjective? You betcha. How could it be anything else? I am very appreciative of the opinions expressed in this forum. Without everyone else in the mix, it would have been much harder (not to mention less fun) to pick a direction to go in trying to resolve my initial issues with SB/SS. Thankfully, I think I've reached that point now. I will probably hold off on making any major changes in my system until everything has had a chance to settle in some more.
