I cant move the speakers at all - it's quite difficult to see from the
picture, but the piano is against the wall with very little space
either side, there is a settee and window facing it and a door on the
adjacent wall. Sadly there is nowhere else that I can practically move
the speakers to.

I am unsure how to try other components, I am not sure that my local
hifi shop would let me borrow any gear, and my friends all have more
sensible ways of spending their cash!

I may buy some 2nd hand gear on ebay though and resell if its no good
