To answer your questions i'd
say
1) it takes a little bit longer to transcode to mp3 but not
unacceptably so maybe 20% more though i havent timed it
2) as good as EAC - now thats a big subject - I think I'm safeish
saying this
a) On an unproblematic disc anything decent (like jriver and the flac
plugin) should produce a decent rip - as good as EAC
b) On a problem disc EAC is probably slower but surer

Although I am a bit of an audio nut (I bought the SB+ from Patrick
Dixon) I have always felt worrying obessively over the bits was a tiny
bit deranged...but my advice would be

a) If the disc is ripping well and quickly relax and use the jriver
option
b) If its struggling with the rip you could always stop and use EAC on
it - jriver will still handle it

But there are some people who swear by EAC and thats fine...jriver will
still manage it for you
