You'd think so, but I've met many smart people with computer science
degrees who think nothing of attempting to design a secure system (I
work for a major Swiss [read: security level "paranoid"] Investment
Bank on client facing web sites) when it's patently obvious they know
nothing about cryptography or the fundamentals of secure system design
:(

There are those who will admit to not knowing anything about security
(yay!) and take advice, but sadly there are far too many who will "have
a go" or leave the issue of security until the end of the design by
which time it's usually too late to fix... :) Maybe the 802.11 WEP
commitee were similarly arrogant?
