Where can I get one? - Nice. I'll put that on my wish list. - Not for me, but it sure is pretty. - Lame idea. Have the SD folks lost their minds? ------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think this is a good move for both SlimDevices, and Infrant. For Slim, it gives them a turnkey system. There are many people out there who wouldn't buy SlimDevices box. It's too complicated to set up. This just goes. It's clearly not aimed at those of us who are capable of building our own servers, it's aimed at my dad, who can afford this, and is computer illiterate. Unfortunately, my dad also has a tin-ear, so he won't be buying one anytime soon :-) Couple issues with it though: 1: It's a pretty high-end system. Would be nice to have had the server in the $300-500 range, not the $900-$1000 add-on. 2: No CD drive. An automatic "rip and go" system would be great. 3: Still needs a computer to configure it. Not much you can do about that though. Even Sonos needs a computer to hold the music and do the rips. One thing I hope they add is something like what Olive does, a ripping, preloading service. Buy the device, get 100 CD's ripped for free type of thing, and the ability to rip as many others as you desire for appropriate fees. All-in-all, a good move.
