I generally use Western Digital drives in my computers, and have only
had one fail over the years. I used to have Seagate's fail at work all
the time, but that was primarily due to cooling problems in the chassis
containing the drives, rather than the drives themselves (although they
did run hot, but again, that was 10 years ago).

Personally, I think Seagate's and Western Digital's are the best drives
currently. I generally had good luck with IBM's back when they made
drives, but I never bought the Deathstar, uh Deskstar 75GB, drive (the
one that died constantly).

I've had nothing but bad luck with Maxtor's, and I won't buy them
anymore. Strange, as they're owned by Seagate these days.

I've also heard that Seagate's are fairly quiet, so if you're building
a media PC, they're apparently the drives to use.

Now remember, all this changes every year. What's good now isn't so
good next year.

But, from a "listening to music over my Squeezebox" point of view,
they're all exactly the same. Bits coming off of a hard drive and
being sent over a network are bits coming off of a hard drive and being
sent over a network.
