Jenks, Your post is the first time I recall anyone reporting such a definite performance boost from a non-professionally modded SB (i.e. non-Bolder/RWA). Nice work!
I'm about to mod my own SB3 and was unsure how much improvement I could gain without paying for pro mods. Feel very encouraged by your comments! I'm hoping my DIY modded SB3 will outperform my Arcam CD92T. Mods: I'm planning on removing the OpAmp as you did, and was going to add BlackGates to the output path (Auricaps won't fit inside an SB3 will they?). What value BGs did you manage to fit in the SB3, i.e. BigAss replacement and 5V input filtering? I presume they were all N-type?
