Jack I've used an HTPC/FooBar/M-Audio 24-96/External DAC setup with good results but with a little effort (money!) I think you will be able to improve on that. The standard Sqeezebox offers excellent potential, an SB2 did pretty well against my modified Wadia 270/27ix, have a read of this thread (it links to the Meridian forum):
