To get all potential benefits from Toslink you really must disconnect the coax cable. Otherwise it will provide a permanent path for electrical noise via the ground connector -which is exactly what the Toslink is good at avoiding! (I assume your DAC doesn't disconnect unused ground inputs. 99% don't.) In my system Toslink sounds exactly like the coax when the coax is connected. If I disconnect the coax and listen to Toslink the system now sound way better than before. The effect is subtle when A/B'ing, but very clear when listening for longer sessions. (This is despite Toslinks worse jitter performance on paper -I speculate that the Toslink jitter is more decorrelated from the audio signal.) -- P Floding ------------------------------------------------------------------------ P Floding's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2932 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24613 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
