I went through a phase when I first got out of college back in the early
90's where I bought every CD I could get my hands on, about 800 in all.
That was around the time every artist in the world began releasing
"greatest hits" CD's and various artist compilations took off.

Rick Springfield, Survivor, Foreigner, an endless supply of greatest
hits of the 70's and 80's... You name the cheesy band or song and I've
got a copy.

I too am planning on ripping and encoding to FLAC. I also was of the
same mindset that I would only rip a portion of my collection. But
myself and the wife mostly listen to the SB in random mode and I don't
find myself running to change the song even when the cheesiest
bubblegum pop song comes on. In fact we find ourselves much more
nastalgic when we hear old popular stuff than I would have ever
believed we would be (if it's disco, which still mostly turns my
stomach, my wife will swat my hand if I try to grab the remote.) I've
found myself tolerating or even liking music that I actually despised
back when it was new, popular and on the radio all the time.

Needless to say the SB has changed my tune and I'll probably rip
everything. I see nothing wrong with indulging in mindless pop/rock
from years ago every now then (although I'd never admit it to my
friends.)
