An external DAC is probably around .5-1K and the transporter is a 2K
product. So there is a big hole between the $300 SB3 and the
Transporter. This is what the modders are trying to cater to. I myself
have not done any mods. I think there should be some improvements going
the mod route. I dont believe (with due respect to Sean) that a stock
product cannot be improved. Who knows SD themselves may come out with a
New and Improved SB3 or a higher end SB3. In which case, many of us will
spring for it. It is just a matter of mindframe and confidence in the
modders if you want to take that approach.
BTW, I am using a SB3 with a Panasonic XR55. Seems like a good budget
approach to high-end sound.
