I can't be sure your SB behaves exactly as mine does, but if it does this proves what you are hearing is indeed a type of placebo effect. In my SB a change of this sort takes (typically) around 30 seconds to manifest itself. The exact amount of time may vary from trial to trial, but it's never been anything close to two seconds. That's because the player buffer is pretty large, so making a change has an effect only after the buffer has run out and the next packet of information gets played, and that takes a while.
